A warning has been issued after "white, waxy deposits" were spotted on three beaches in east Kent.

Thanet District Council said sightings have been reported at Margate Main Sands, Ramsgate Main Sands and Botany Bay.

Posting on social media, HM Coastguard said it believed the deposits were palm oil and asked for any more sightings to be reported.

It advised people to keep their pets on leads and to keep them away from the suspected palm oil as it can pose a serious risk to dogs.

The district council said inspections around the coast were planned for Sunday morning and clearance of the deposits would be arranged.
