One dead after fatal crash on Colonial Boulevard overnight

Colonial Boulevard in Fort Myers reopened Saturday morning, Dec. 13, following a fatal crash overnight.
The Fort Myers Police Department was still investigating the crash Saturday afternoon. Police spokesperson Megan Fuentes confirmed that one person was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. No other information was given.
All eastbound and westbound lanes were blocked at Colonial Boulevard and Lee Boulevard until around 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

The Fort Myers News-Press has requested public records involving the crash and will continue to update the story as information becomes available.
According to Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, there have been 12,439 crashes in Lee County this year. Out of those crashes 94 have been fatal, resulting in 97 deaths. The Lee County Sheriff's Department investigated 6,857, or around 55%, of the total crashes this year. Local police departments handled 4,719 of the 12,439 crashes and Florida Highway Patrol investigated 773 Lee crashes this year.
