Man detained in Brown University shooting from Wisconsin, CNN reports

The person detained in connection with the Brown University shooting that killed at least two people and injured nine others is from Wisconsin, according to reporting from CNN on Dec. 14.

Citing multiple unnamed law enforcement sources with knowledge of the investigation, CNN's John Miller reported that the person of interest traveled from Wisconsin to Rhode Island to carry out the shooting.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has not independently confirmed CNN's reporting.

The Journal Sentinel reached out to a spokeswoman for Gov. Tony Evers on Dec. 14, asking if he had been briefed on the situation, but has not yet heard back. A spokesman for the Wisconsin Department of Justice did not immediately have any information.

Providence Police Department Chief Col. Oscar Perez has said the person of interest is a man in their early 20s. Officials have not yet publicly named him.

Authorities are not currently searching for anyone else in the case, USA TODAY reported.

The shooting at the Ivy League University happened about 4 p.m. Dec. 13 inside an engineering building with unlocked doors as final exams were underway.

Officials have not yet named the victims of the shooting. Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said during an afternoon news conference on Dec. 14 that officials had not yet notified the families of all victims.
