The John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge ramp from Interstate 65 South to Interstate 64 West will be closed longer than expected, according to a news release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
Spokesperson Morgan Woodrum said the ramp, which is undergoing repairs as part of the bridge expansion joint replacement project, is now expected to remain closed through January 2026 after it began Nov. 18. The closure was extended due to “weather-related delays and additional necessary repairs,” Woodrum said.
“The ramp closure supports ongoing work on the southernmost expansion joint on the right side of the bridge,” she said.

In addition to the ramp, the right three lanes and right shoulder of the Kennedy Bridge are closed. After the ramp closure, crews will then move to the next phase of the project in the left three lanes.

The closures are part of a larger project, expected to be completed by Fall 2026, to replace bridge expansion joints as “a more permanent solution for damaged joints,” Woodrum said.
Woodrum said expansion joints are “critical components of a bridge deck” and allow the structure to expand and contract as the temperature changes, which prevents cracking and preserves the bridge’s long-term structural integrity.
