He was released from federal custody before trial, according to court records.

The girl told her aunt about her relationship with David and the aunt and the girl’s mom filed a felony sexual assault complaint with HPD.
David was also employed as a firefighter for the Department of Defense (Federal Fire ) and worked at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Federal Fire Station Nine, in Ewa Beach.
“We filed a police report after finding out that (the victim ) was having sex for the past year and a half with her volleyball coach, Elias David, ” read the July 29, 2024, petition for a protective order filed by the victim’s mother. “I was informed that Elias David was arrested on 7 /16 /2024 and made a statement, he said that he was in love with (the victim ).”

On July 16, 2024, the girl was interviewed at the Children’s Justice Center Oahu by an HPD detective. David’s wife found out about his alleged illegal relationship in May 2023, according to court records.
The girl told police she started dating her coach after a club volleyball trip to Las Vegas in February 2023 after she turned 16.
“Based on my training and experience, MV1 may have been aware that 16 years old is the age of consent in Hawaii, and thus omitted mention of a sexual relationship prior to that date in order to keep David from getting into trouble, ” wrote an FBI agent in an affidavit.
The girl told police that she had sex with David at the fire station where he worked, at an empty warehouse next to the fire station, his house and his car.

HPD detectives conducted a crime scene investigation at the warehouse across the street from Federal Fire Station #9.
The warehouse was abandoned, but in one of the rooms, investigators found weight lifting equipment, basic furniture, and a bed, “consistent with MV1’s statement that she would meet David there for sexual activity.”
In order to access the warehouse, MV1 said that she had to “climb under a chain link fence that was partially propped up.”
Detectives found the chain-link fence, including a section that was propped up, “consistent with MV1’s statement.” David was interviewed by HPD and allegedly admitted to a consensual sexual relationship with the girl.

“David stated that other minor female volleyball students had made sexual advances on him in the past, but he never acted on them until MV1, ” according to the FBI agent’s affidavit. “David stated that at some point while coaching and training MV1, David and MV1 began to develop feelings for each other and ‘fell in love’.”
He also allegedly admitted to ordering ride-sharing service for MV1 so she could leave her house to meet him.
A search of the girl’s phone revealed more than 97 videos of sexual activity, including intercourse.
