When it comes to soap operas, we hold certain truths to be self-evident. Lovers will never have an easy go of it, weddings will rarely go off without a hitch, and the person put on trial for murder (attempted or otherwise) will inevitably prove to be innocent. So this week, as General Hospital’s Willow faces a jury of her peers, the rest of us are waiting with baited breath to find out who really pulled the trigger in an effort to rid the world of Congressman Cutthroat.

Because obviously, the aforementioned soap rules prove that Michael’s ex-wife is certainly not responsible. Unless, of course she is.

Stay with us here, because we suspect the soap could be about to pull the rug right out from everyone with a twist right out of Law & Order. Because as much as Willow insists to anyone who’ll listen that she is innocent, join us in flashing back to just how unbalanced the young beauty was at the time of the mystery-person’s attack.

In fact, let’s throw in one more shocker by suggesting that not only did Willow pull the trigger, but she’s going to get away with it. How? Thanks to a legal principal, rooted in the Fifth Amendment, known as “double jeopardy.” What it says, in essence, is that once a person has been found not guilty by a jury, they can’t be prosecuted for the same crime.

Imagine if Willow had a partial disassociation on the night in question and truly believes herself to be innocent. But after being found not guilty at trial, she discovers the truth… perhaps when hubby Drew makes a slip of the tongue revealing he knew all along that she was the person responsible, but kept quiet. To protect her? To make sure Michael eventually was found guilty? With Drew, either reason is equally believable.

It would, however, allow Willow to join the ranks of Port Charles citizens who committed the crime but avoided doing the time.
